The legal regulation of health care is extensive and different in every country.

Article 53 of the Constitution of Lithuania provides:

"The State shall take care of the health of people and shall guarantee medical aid and services for a person in the event of sickness. The procedure for providing medical aid to citizens free of charge at state medical establishments shall be established by law."

In Lithuania, the key law regulating the health care system is the Law on the Health System. This law contains provisions on different types of care, public health and others.

Patient rights are regulated by the Law on the Rights of Patients and Compensation of the Damage to their Health
